    Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome back to South Mountain High for the 2013-2014 school year!  My name is Ellen Spinner--many of you may know me already and for some of you I am new to you. I am writing to you to both reintroduce myself as one of the school counselors here and to explain the role that I plan to fulfill within our school environment.  This is my 6th year as a school counselor at SMHS, and I am excited to get started on yet another great school year! I believe students should feel that school is a safe place where they can learn and be successful.

What Does A School Counselor Do?
The SMHS school counseling program assists all students in acquiring the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers and lifelong learners.  The program is comprehensive and developmental.  I am here to help ALL students develop to their utmost potential by providing each student with services that foster the skills and attitudes necessary to achieve success in their academic, career, and personal/social development.
