My name is Alejandrina Mejia. I am a Science teacher at Alhambra High School. I am currently teaching Environmental Science, and I am sponsor of the Students for a Sustainable Planet. The club meets every Thursday to pick-up the recyclable materials within the whole school. Before the pick-up, the club has a short meeting to discuss the plan for the educational and recreational activities, Every year the club visit the Phoenix Recycling Plant, Metal Recycling Plant, so that the students can learn how the materials are processed at each site. We also do community services at Alhambra Community. The club also visits the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University Autonomous of Santo Domingo at the Dominican Republic. I also have a master's degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus at Puerto Rico. I taught Biology for two year at the University of Puerto Rico, Cayey campus. In addition, I taught a summer of Botany at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. I taught at Carl Hayden for 15 years where I taught different Science classes. At Carl Hayden, I was also sponsor of the Blue Planet Society (a sustainability club).
I taught for two years at Sqwak Peak elementary School of Creighton district. In my first year at Squak Peak I taught 3rd grade dual language and in my second year I taugh Spanish for 7th and 8th grade gifted students. I was also the bilingual coordinator in my first year at Squaw Peak.
