Claudio CoriaExecutive Director, Leadership
Claudio Coria became the Executive Director for Leadership in 2016. Mr. Coria oversees principals, PUHSD’s aspiring leader pipeline, student support services, student safety, and athletics. He is also responsible for the implementation of the Restorative Justice initiative. Prior to this assignment, he was the principal of Alhambra High School, where he served for five years. He joined PUHSD as an assistant principal at Central High School, where he worked for four years. Coria was a principal at Westwind Middle School in the Pendergast Elementary District for five years, and an assistant principal at Griffith Elementary School in the Balsz District for three years. A product of the Teach for America program, he began his career as a bilingual junior high teacher in the Roosevelt District. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies and a Master’s of Educational Administration from ASU. Coria shares his talents and time to community and volunteer efforts by serving on the Board of Directors for the Arizona K-12 Center. In addition, he serves on the Professional Practices Advisory Council with the Arizona Board of Education. As principal of Alhambra High School, he was a member of Beat the Odds, a program recognizing schools that are demonstrating high levels of student success and serving high poverty and mainly Latino students. Alhambra was recognized as a Beat the Odds Gold Schoolfor sustained academic achievement during Mr. Coria’s tenure. Mr. Coria is also a committed advocate of the National Board Certification process for teachers.
