Welcome to your exciting academic journey… I look forward to our enriching learning experience together! My name is Ms. Christine Russell; however, my students call me Ms. R. I am excited to be your instructor for Culinary Arts. I have a passion for nutrition and healthy organic cooking!!! My goal is quite simple... It is to help you to reach yours!
I earned my B.S. degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University. After graduating, I enrolled in the joint M.B.A program at University of New Mexico/Arizona State University. In 2002, I completed the Post Baccalaureate program at Rio Salado College in secondary education, earning certification in Business/Marketing, Family & Consumer Sciences, Cooperative Education, English, and Reading. Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration.
For about 25 years, I worked in the field of Strategic Contracts Management for major corporations, started my own real estate consulting company, and managed two nonprofit organizations. My responsibilities ranged from managing business operations, contract compliance, strategic contract negotiations, community service & development, marketing methods/techniques, and real estate investing.
Teaching is my second career, and I love it! Since 2002, I've been facilitating undergraduate courses for University of Phoenix Online, plus teaching English, journalism, reading, and career/technical education courses for various high schools. I've always loved to teach; it has given me great joy to see the light bulb illuminate when a student is enlightened! Learning is a 2-way enriching experience; I become just as enriched by my students.
My desire is for students to learn how to apply critical thinking, thus creating independent thinkers who go beyond the obvious. I will not just teach what each one needs to know, but rather allow him/her the opportunity for self-discovery. Additionally, instead of having students simply recite what they've learned, I employ critical thinking as a major mode of interacting. This allows students to personalize the learning experience and to explore concepts required to be successful. The idea is to foster understanding of certain concepts and its correlation to practical applications.
