    Chief Academic Officer
     
    Dr. Althe Allen was named Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Accountability in October, 2010. She became Associate Superintendent in July, 2014, and Chief Academic Officer in July, 2016. Allen heads the curriculum department, with the overarching goal of improving student achievement. She  oversees district curriculum directors and content specialists, analyzes achievement results, researches and implements strategies and curricula, oversees state and federal accountability programs, school improvement efforts and develops and maintains Title programs and teacher professional development opportunities. Prior to coming to Phoenix Union, Allen was the Executive Director of Secondary Schools and Excelling Teaching and Learning at Scottsdale Unified School District for nine years, responsible for all high school operations. She began at SUSD in 1998 as an assistant principal at Saguaro High School. Allen was also the Director of Alternative Education for the district, developing alternative education programs and establishing an alternative school in which she was principal. Allen has been a principal and teacher for schools in the Maricopa County Regional School District, beginning her education career in Arizona teaching at Thomas J. Pappas School in 1992. A native of New York, she earned her B.A. at State University of New York at Albany, her Masters at Northern Arizona University in Educational Leadership, and her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Arizona State University. She lives in Phoenix with her son.
