Student Achievement is Phoenix Union's top priority. According to the Arizona accountability system, all schools are "Performing" or better. Bioscience High School broke into the "Excelling" category. The rankings reflect improving trends in test scores, graduation rates and a dropout rate that has declined below state and national averages. Expanded Honors and Advanced Placement classes, innovative programs like AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) and Read 180, and the implementation of new strategies in math instruction, Special Education inclusion and English as a Second Language are paying dividends.
Phoenix Union is also a leader in adopting instructional technologies to the classroom that improve teaching and enhance the learning environment for children through increased participation and interaction.
Phoenix's growth is legendary, and the District reflects and responds to the population explosion. An increase of over 1200 students in the past three years followed a $205 million bond approval by voters which is funding the construction of new schools, campus renovations and technology enhancement.
