·      MEChA would like to share a quote In honor of Cesar Chavez, “Students must have initiative; they should not be mere imitators. They must learn to think and act for themselves- and be free.” As we move into this holiday weekend, take time to reflect on the work Chavez did which improved so many lives during his lifetime, and use his words and example to empower and motivate you.

·      Attention Students – Are you interested in being part of Maryvale’s Student Government next year? Applications for Executive Board and Class officers are available. All applications are due TOMORROW. See Ms. Galaz in room 704 or Ms. McKinney in room 312 for an application. There will be an information meeting TODAY after school in room 704 for anyone interested in running for an office.

·      Attention Maryvale Shoppers - The "Maryvale Clothing Closet" is opening this Friday in room 800 in the 800 building. The store features woman's designer jeans, sweaters, tank tops, blouses, dresses, skirts, shoes, bags and more. What’s the best part of it all?  It is completely free! Limit 1 item per visit, or 2 if you bring a washed, nice quality item to exchange. The store is open from 2:35-3:30, so swing by and bring a friend! 

·      Community Service - Are you looking to add volunteer hours to your Stewardship requirement for Advisory?  If so, please join the EARTH Club on Thursday, in room 727, after school!

·      Dragon Boat Team - Congratulations to Maryvale’s dragon boat team! They placed 2nd in last weekend’s race at Tempe Town Lake and beat North High School by just a half second. Maryvale is now the #1 high school dragon boat team in the state! Thank you to those who donated their time and came out to support us.

·      Boys Tennis Results - Congratulations to the boy’s tennis team in defeating North high school in yesterday’s tennis match 8-1. The team was led by Leo Palomares and Victor Hidalgo, they dominated their opponents in their singles and doubles match. Great job team, keep working hard for those Ws.

·      AZ Merit Testing – AZMerit Testing Monday and Tuesday next week: Please check the bright green and the bright blue posters located outside of the front office to see if you are testing. The bright green posters are for Monday, April 3 and the bright blue is for Tuesday, April 4. If your name is not on any of the posters, please arrive to school at 11:30am.

·      Attention all students- applications for Powder puff are due next Weds April 5 to room 410. See Ms. Cho in room 410 or Mrs. Jacobs in room 405 for more information to play, cheer, coach, ref, or volunteer. You must have athletic clearance to play or cheer. Pick up a packet from the athletic office for the FREE physicals at school this Saturday, April 1 at 11:30 AM.

·      Attention Seniors - Jostens will be on campus on Friday, April 7th in the auditorium lobby during both lunches to distribute caps/gowns and graduation products.

·      National Honor Society - All community service points are due Thursday, March 30th.  All receipts for the candy sale are due Monday, April 3rd.  We will have a meeting this Thursday at 2:45pm in room 100.  See you then.

·      Voracious Readers - All members going on the Beauty and the Beast field trip need to turn in their permission forms today, Wednesday, after school.  We will depart at exactly 3:00pm.  Please meet in the north parking lot and bring money for dinner and the film if you did not participate in the 1st discussion.

·      Golf Results - In a 5-4 defeat in yesterday’s tennis match against Camelback Maryvale’s 1 rank Victor Hidalgo defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. Number 5 Rodrigo Alvarado defeated his opponent in a tie breaker, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. Maryvale won 2 out of 3 doubles match. Hidalgo and Leo Palomares won 9-7, Julian Rojo and Rodrigo Alvarado won their doubles 8-6. JV’s Sergio Mora and Deux Mabika won their singles match 8-0, 8-5.  Sergio Mora and Pablo Nieland defeated their doubles opponents 8-6. Great job panthers keep on improving!

 

 

·      PROM 2017 – ATTENTION MARYVALE, PROM is April 29th at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. Tickets will go on sale April 3RD at the bookstore for $50 each during the first week. So get your tickets before prices go up. The first 150 tickets sold will receive a free 5x7 picture. If you are bringing a guest that does not attend Maryvale you must fill out a guest pass. Guest passes are available in room 312. You can also win FREE TICKETS by submitting your amazing PROMPOSALS. Submit all promposals on Instagram using the hashtag #maryvalepromposal17. The deadline for all promposals will be April 21st.

·      Attention students - You might have failed 3rd quarter, but it doesn’t mean that you have failed the semester. Student Unity Club is now here to help you, come to room 102 every Thursday afterschool and get tutored by one of your fellow classmates. We offer tutoring in every subject, and if you would like to be a tutor come and see us as well!

·      Girls Soccer - Congrats to the 2016-2017 Maryvale Girls Soccer Program. We had 7 athletes make the AIA 6A Metro Soccer Recognition. Martiza Vitali, Daniela Avechuco, Lydiana Tavizon, Daniela Velazquez, Sarahi Mendoza, Alexius Rodriguez, Melanie, Vazquez.

·      Attention Students - FREE PHYSICALS for next year will be offered this Saturday, April 1st. FREE PIZZA AND MUSIC AT 11:30AM @ MARYVALE. BUS LEAVES AT 12:45PM FOR SUNNYSLOPE HIGH SCHOOL BUT YOU MUST CHECK-IN BY 12NOON. Pick-up free physical packets from their coach or in the athletic office.

·      Academic Decathalon - Congratulations to Maryvale's Academic Decathlon team!  This past weekend they competed in the state competition.  They earned fourth place in the super quiz relay and placed 12th overall.  Diana Flores led the team in scoring, and Julian Contreras won a gold medal in art.  Arlenys Gonzalez, Maria Valencia, Rachel Campos, Priscilla Peraza, Brianna Sierra, Isis Haywood, and Brian Bejar all made crucial contributions to the team effort!”
