I'm very excited to be a part of the founding team at Phoenix Coding Academy. Previous to coming to PCA, I spent 7 years at Bioscience High School and 20 years at Carl Hayden Community High School. Over the course of my teaching career, I've had the chance to teach grades 9-12; to teach English, World History, American History, Government, Integrated Software, Computer Fundamentals, Multimedia Presentations, BioEthics, Newspaper and Yearbook; and to coordinate Bioscience HS's Internship Program. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience with curriculum integration, team-teaching, and block scheduling. Besides my long tenure as a high school teacher, I also teach ENG102 at Phoenix College. As a teacher, I strive to provide rich, engaging, authentic experiences for students, which center around problem-solving and utilize community connections.
On a personal note, I am originally from Minnesota but have lived in Arizona since 1989. My husband, who is a Spanish teacher, and we have 2 kids of our own - one who is still in high school and one who graduated from college a couple of years ago. We stay busy juggling our kids' schedules, managing our coaching and teaching schedules, and making occasional trips to Tucson (to visit family) or to California (to visit the beach).
