    Dear Bobcat Parents/Guardians,

For the third year in a row, Central High graduates continue to demonstrate progress in the areas of cohort graduation rates, college applications/acceptances, and scholarship earnings. The class of 2017 exceeded our expectations by achieving a 100% rate in our college application campaign as well as an increase rate in early FAFSA completions. As a result of their efforts, the class of 2017 earned almost $4 million dollars in scholarship money. In addition to the financial rewards, the class of 2017 maintained a 93% graduation rate as a class and our students were accepted to our local universities – ASU, UofA, and NAU – as well as the University of Hawaii, Smith College (Massachusetts), Lewis and Clark (Oregon), and New Mexico State University. Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

As we make plans for the 2017-2018 school year, we are excited about our future and anticipate a great year for Central High School and our students. Our time during the summer has been busy with the hiring of new teachers/support staff, strengthening our systems of collaboration such as our Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s), and identifying academic interventions as well as enrichment opportunities in conjunction with our Advisory period.

We are acutely aware of the impact quality teachers have on student achievement, school relationships (culture & climate), and college readiness. It is our priority to be fully staffed with highly qualified teachers in all content and elective areas and expect to meet our objective by mid-July. Our students will continue to lead the way in our college campaign efforts by becoming active participants in the process from start to finish. Parents, we encourage your support and ask you to become involve and assist us in the early completion of your student’s FAFSA application. As a learning community, we will continue to explore and create opportunities for student achievement by offering relevant and rigorous coursework such as Honors, AP (Advance Placement) and DE (Dual Enrollment) as well as a sound, comprehensive educational program which offers a variety of choices for our students. In order to ensure our students’ success, our academic and emotional support systems such as our Professional Learning Communities, Advisory period, and Student Support teams, will provide the necessary assistance to prepare our students both academically and socially. Whether a student’s desire is college, career, and/or military, we as a staff, are poised and ready to engage, educate, and empower each student every day.

I am delighted to announce the hiring of Dr. Jeffrey Williams as our Assistant Principal for Student Success. Dr. Williams brings a heightened awareness of pedagogy, knowledge of best instructional practices, and enthusiastic energy to his position. We are excited and fortunate he has joined our team. If time permits, I encourage you to stop by and welcome Dr. Williams to our learning community. While on campus, please take a moment to see the progress of our campus projects. Parts of our campus have received a facelift with a new color scheme. Other campus projects are scheduled to begin at the conclusion of our summer school program.   It is an exciting time to be a Bobcat!

As always, I encourage you to take an active role in supporting, and embracing our mission for success. With quality and collaborative teachers and staff, engaged parental support, rigorous, relevant coursework, and impactful student services, I can assure you of creating a learning environment in which “All of Us” will continue to support and Prepare Every Student for Success in College, Career, and Life. I look forward to working with and for you in making a difference in the lives of our students.

    Mr. John Biera
