MARYVALE IS A CLOSED CAMPUS. No student may leave campus until the end of the school day.

JROTC: This past weekend, Maryvale's JROTC competed in the Phoenix Union Junior Varsity Marauder competition held at Betty Fairfax High School.  The team placed first and second in all five events and won first place overall. Team members include Iran Padilla, Ryan Gillette, Stephen Deason, Sherlinn Rodriguez, Johnny Cifuentes and Bryan Rios.

Congratulations to Maryvale’s Academic Decathlon team.

This weekend they competed in the district competition and captured second place in the super quiz competition.  The team was led in scoring by Luis Camacho, who earned a bronze medal in speech, a silver medal in language in literature, a silver medal in social science, a gold medal in essay, and a gold medal in science.  Of the 338 students, Luis was the second highest scorer.  He is now the highest scoring student in Maryvale’s history (at least as far as the records go back), which is about 25 years.  Aiyana Navarrette won a bronze medal in essay in the scholastic division.  Alondra Landaverde, Jennifer Mejia Vasquez, Maria Martinez, Fabiola Santos Hernandez, Isaak Vargas, Vivian Nguyen, and Darinka Hernandez all contributed to the team’s success.

FRESHMEN: Please continue to submit ASU Upward Bound applications to the basket in Counseling. The date has been extended to December 2nd. Each application will be stamped with the date received. Extra applications are available in Counseling.

TUTORING ASSISTANCE: Need help with reading, math, or writing concepts or support for the upcoming ACT or AIMS testing? Saturday school will occur twice a month, and tutoring is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m.

VORACIOUS READERS: A new schedule has been created that changes a variety of dates for future novels. Please stop by room 100 and get the new schedule.

SENIORS: If you have not taken your civics exam, or have and did not pass, you will need to make sure you participate in the make-up test occurring November 29th at 7:15 a.m.  in the computer lab. Please see your counselor for more information and to get the study guide. Reminder—a passing score on the civics exam is a graduation requirement.

STUDENTS: We need your help to keep the outside area near the basketball courts and adjacent fields clean during both lunches. If you do not keep this area clean, we might need to close it. All garbage must go into the garbage cans to keep this area clean for all PE classes and athletics.
